The Gardner-Webb University Department of Physician Assistant Studies seeks a qualified candidate to fill a 12-month full-time non-tenure-track faculty position in the College of Health Sciences at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or Professor beginning April 2023, on the main campus in Boiling Springs, NC.

This is a campus-based position requiring the successful candidate to work on campus. The candidate must be a motivated PA or physician passionate about the PA profession and academia. This individual will work closely with all department members while collaborating with the College of Health Sciences members through interprofessional education opportunities. The faculty and staff of the department are devoted to academic excellence and possess a passionate commitment to underserved populations and reducing barriers to healthcare.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the department supervision, planning, development, implementation, organization, administration, evaluation, and general effectiveness of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies (DPAS). Working with the PA principal and instructional faculty, the Department of Physician Assistant Studies director reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The candidate will share responsibility for compliance with guidelines and policies issued by the program, ARC-PA, state medical boards, and other regulatory agencies across all aspects of the department. The individual will be a leader liaison between the PA program, the university, and the medical community. The director will lead the self-study process, particularly in identifying opportunities to improve deficiencies, developing and implementing pragmatic solutions for all phases of the program, department-specific policies and procedures that enhance workflow, optimizing resources, and ensuring compliance with the ARC-PA Accreditation Standards to attain and maintain accreditation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION

Highly qualified applicants must possess the minimum of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university/accredited PA program, but a doctorate is preferred (DMSc, DHSc, EdD, or Ph.D.). This person must have at least three years of full-time higher-education experience and hold current or emeritus NCCPA certification. Also required are at least two years of professional clinical practice experience in a clinical health-related field involving direct patient care and eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication. Experience in PA or graduate medical education or clinical precepting is desirable. The applicant is expected to participate in inter-professional education opportunities, provide service with active participation in program, school, and university committees, and pursue professional development opportunities annually. Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative environment and self-motivation are essential qualities of a successful applicant.
