Why be a faculty member of the University of New England Physician Assistant Program?

The UNE Physician Assistant (PA) Program is the only PA program in Maine and is a recognized leader in northern New England for the education and training of high-quality PAs. We are located on the historic Westbrook College of Health Professions campus in beautiful Portland, Maine. Working here, you will join a team of dedicated and talented faculty and professional staff who are strongly committed to our mission to prepare master’s level primary care PAs to be highly skilled members of interprofessional healthcare teams.

UNE’s PA Program is unique in our mission for our graduates to work in and understand the special needs of rural, underserved, and geriatric populations, especially in New England. Our PA Program advocates for the health and social needs of these patients and their communities, thereby addressing and overcoming health disparities and barriers. Our goal is to find and implement innovative ways to develop healthier communities through provision of equitable care for diverse populations.

Benefits for joining our faculty

The package includes excellent health and dental plans; life insurance; a retirement plan that includes up to an 8% match; extensive paid leave including 12 holidays, 20 days of vacation, additional sick and personal time accrued; and money-saving educational benefits for both employees and dependent children. Please visit the Human Resources Benefits site https://www.une.edu/hr/benefits for additional information regarding UNE’s fantastic benefits package. UNE also can help with relocation expenses and pays a competitive faculty salary. Our not-for-profit private institution qualifies as an eligible employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Our program reimburses for CME and encourages going to conferences. We also allow for one day a week as a “clinical release day” for those who wish to continue practicing medicine. The flexible work schedule as well as the ability to complete portions of work remotely make this a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to obtain a better work-life balance.

Portland as a place to live

Portland, Maine is also a wonderful place to live, listed in the top 10 places in the U.S. according to U.S. News and World Report which considers value, desirability, job market, and quality of life. Our plethora of restaurants, parks and trail systems, ample coastline, and easy accessibility to the mountains ensure you always have something to do on your time off. Maine is also known as Vacationland and it truly does not disappoint.
