Program Director and Associate/Full Professor of Physician Assistant Studies

Position Summary:

The Program Director position shall meet ARC-PA requirements and the University requirements for an academic rank of a Full Professor or Associate Professor. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, the Program Director is a 12-month position who is responsible for leadership and the overall management of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program to ensure quality educational experience for its students, efficient delivery of the program offering, and compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies and procedures. The position has the responsibility of teaching, providing service to the university, and engaging in scholarship as outlined in the Chatham University Faculty Manual. This position requires the applicant to be prepared to begin at the start of the academic year 2024-2025.

The Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program graduated its first cohort in 1997 and is a leader in problem-based learning pedagogy. The program is committed to graduating exceptional clinicians dedicated to compassionate care and cultural humility. The MPAS Program is housed within Chatham University's School of Health Sciences along with physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, athletic training, exercise science, and counseling psychology. Within the school, all programs collaborate with a well-established, robust interprofessional education curriculum.

Primary Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the implementation and assessment of the curriculum according to best practices, institutional, and accreditation requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation ARC-PA Standards.
  • Provides strategic and operational leadership to the program to assure quality and efficiency.
  • Hires principal and associated faculty and staff, evaluates their performance, and supports their ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Plans and manages program budget and fiscal resources, as well as faculty and staff workload; and
  • Contributes to advancing the institutional mission and strategic plan.

Other Faculty and Professional Responsibilities:

  • Delivers classroom and/or laboratory instruction in accordance with University course load requirements.
  • Maintains a scholarly agenda that leads to invited or peer-reviewed dissemination as required by rank and appointment.
  • Serves on School and University committees and participates in academic governance.
  • Actively pursues continuing education activities as required for maintaining professional qualifications; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Dean.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Physician Assistant and hold current or emeritus NCCPA certification status.
  • A minimum of master's degree required.
  • At least three years of full-time higher education experience at the time of appointment; prior leadership experience in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • A record of scholarship (i.e., publication, presentation, and/or grants) is expected commensurate to rank.
  • A record of service leadership (i.e., professional organization, university committees) is expected commensurate to rank.
