Morgan and Her Research Team Awarded PAEA Don Pedersen Grant

The PAEA Research Department and the Research Mission Advancement Commission are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 PAEA Don Pedersen Research Grant.

This year’s winners are Perri Morgan, PhD, PA-C; Melinda Blazar, MHS, PA-C; Quincy Jones, MSW, MSH, PA-C; and Brandi Leach, PhD, for their proposal “A National and State Level Analysis of 2016 Job Openings for Physician Assistants.” This research will build upon and update the already substantial research that Morgan et al. conducted on the employment market for PAs with newer data.

About the new research, Morgan et al. write, “If primary care opportunities continue to be limited, this will highlight the need for approaches to increase the uptake of PAs into primary care. PA job information will also be useful in decisions about whether to open or enlarge existing PA training programs, can inform curricular emphases, and may be useful to PAs facing the employment market. In addition, this project will expand a database that can support future research.”

The Don Pedersen Research Grants Program is generously endowed by the Pedersen family and is intended to foster PA faculty development in the area of research — about both PA education and PA workforce issues.

Congratulations to Perri, Melinda, Quincy, and Brandi!
