PAEA is excited to introduce a four- part webinar series, “Elevating DEI in PA Education” a collaborative effort, designed to equip PA educators with tools and resources to bolster diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at their programs. Join us as we highlight best practices, share ideas, and learn from leaders. This series is developed in collaboration among PAEA’s Diversity, Faculty Development, Leadership, and Research Mission Advancement Commissions.  

Session 1 – Using Data to Advance Your Program’s DEI Goals

Learning objectives 

Participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify different sources of accessible program and individual-level data that address diversity, equity, and inclusion  
  2. Understand how data from different sources can be used to aid in the recruitment of diverse applicants  
  3. Understand how data related to diversity, equity, and inclusion can be collected and analyzed in the clinical year

Session 2 – Faculty Strategies for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Excellence: Creating Exemplary Spaces for Safe and Brave Spaces

  1.   Review case presentations to develop strategies that effectively foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in PA education.   
  2. Discuss strategies to support diversity and develop cultural competence in the academic and clinical learning environments.   
  3.  Develop an implementation strategy to create safe and brave spaces for difficult conversations.

Session 3 – Looking Through the Leadership Lens: DEI Integration Across the Institution

Participants will be able to:  

  1. Describe ways the university can hold itself institutionally and all those affiliated with it accountable for continued progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion  
  2. Discuss how PA programs can determine what is needed to meet desired diversity, equity, and inclusion program goals and outcomes  
  3. Demonstrate ways PA programs can integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into student and alumni engagement and opportunities

Session 4 – Bringing it All Together: Leveraging the DEI Toolkit to Promote Inclusive Excellence

September 30, 1–2 p.m. Eastern Time

Learning Objectives 

Participants will be able to:  

  1. Develop a process for developing DEI goals for PA programs.  
  2. Demonstrate diversity of thought in creating DEI strategies.  
  3. Apply the DEI toolkit roadmap framework (Steps 1 – 6).  
  4. Appraise different ways critical conversations can be leveraged to assess the impact of DEI goals using the DEI toolkit roadmap framework.  
  5. Discuss innovative techniques used to navigate conversation mishaps regarding DEI.
